The Hamilton Oshawa Port Authority (HOPA) expects to re-open the Oshawa Pier this weekend two weeks after the bulk carrier Ocean Castle smashed into it, scraping the side of the pier and causing some damage to the ship’s stern as well.

The ship, flying a Maltese flag and carrying a load of steel, was inbound from Montreal in the early morning hours and attempting to maneuver to berth.

HOPA closed the pier for public safety and has been working to repair the safety railing at the Oshawa Pier since then.
