Darryl Mackie, who ran under the People’s Party of Canada in this week’s election, has been arrested after a planned stunt at an Oshawa Tim Hortons Wednesday morning.
Mackie announced on Twitter he was going to the Thornton Road Tim Horton’s around 9 a.m. Wednesday morning. “It’s time for our Rosa Parks moment…,” he tweeted.
It’s time for our Rosa Parks moment… catch me sitting at a table drinking a coffee peacefully at my local Timmie’s (Thornton & Rossland) at 10:00 am pic.twitter.com/VRVEwCkLYq

That prompted a number of quick reponses from people, including this one from a man named Jonathan. “Are you saying that your persecution … is somehow comparable to what African Americans endured as they battled for Civil Rights?”
Hours later Mackie posted a video of what called his “sit-in against segregation.” He is shown without a mask, in violation of Ontario Health regulations.
Here I am! This isn’t fun! No problems so far… but we need to stop the segregation of our society before it begins. Give me Liberty or give me Death! pic.twitter.com/ka4BAl0DHU

Staff at the restaurant called police after Mackie refused to leave. He has been charged with trespassing and “failure to leave a premises.”
More than 3,800 people voted for Mackie Monday.
