A seven-week campaign to catch people wanted on outstanding warrants took Durham Police officers across southern Ontario in their quest and resulted in the arrest of 221 people on 757 charges.

Project Tundra took place between January and March and saw Offender Management Unit officers, assisted by other divisions, execute 434 arrest warrants in a campaign focussed on persons wanted on outstanding arrest warrants for offences that occurred within Durham Region.

Nearly 200 of the charges were for failing to show up for court but many of the 221 people arrested were for serious crimes, such as sexual assault, sexual exploitation and aggravated assault.

One of those charged was Peter Lucifora, a 57 year-old from Oshawa who was charged with sexual assault from a crime committed between 2007 and 2008.  During the investigation it was discovered that Lucifora had legally changed his name to Peter Haufe after the incident.

Lucifora/Haufe was found to be still residing in the Oshawa area where he was located and arrested on the outstanding warrant.

Others arrested during Project Tundra include Hanniah Ahmadi (recruiting person to provide sexual services, publish intimate image, publish child porn); Kelly Aldred (theft, possession of stolen property, aggravated assault with a weapon); Sarah Capano (19 fraud-related charges); Jeremy Corriveau (six charges, including assault with a weapon); Thomas Cuddy (sexual assault); Nathan Doherty (six charges, including assault with a weapon and assault by choking); and Kenneth Mark (robbery, disguise with intent, weapons dangerous).

Anyone with any new information about this incident or other incidents is asked to contact Detective Constable Cook or Detective Sergeant McCabe at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5389.

Anonymous information can be sent to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca and tipsters may be eligible for a $2000 cash reward.
