Durham Regional Police arrested an allegedly impaired driver who hit a trailer and police cruiser in Clarington.

On Jan. 29, at approximately 3:00 a.m., officers were controlling traffic for a trailer blocking part of a roadway near Concession Rd 7/Holt Rd in Clarington. Police say that despite the cruiser’s emergency lights being on, a vehicle travelling westbound crashed into the trailer and cruiser.

Durham Police approached the vehicle to attend to the occupants and investigate the situation.

According to the officers, no one appeared to be injured, but it’s alleged the driver was holding a beer in his hand.

A 33-year-old man from Oshawa has been arrested and police have charged him with operation of a vehicle while impaired and exceeding the alcohol blood limit.

Police are asking motorists to drive safely and not drink and drive.
