A 30-year-old man has been arrested after breaking into a residence in Oshawa and assaulting a woman on Tuesday night.

Durham Police were dispatched just after ten p.m. to a building around Richmond Street in Oshawa for a break and enter call. Police spoke to the victim who said she was in the residence when an unknown man broke into the home and assaulted her.

The woman managed to escape and ran around the block before returning to the residence and locking the door. The suspect broke in again and confronted her once more. The woman was able to get away and two civilians helped her fight off the suspect before the man fled on foot.

The suspect later walked into Central East Division to report a separate crime and was taken into custody.

The woman and one of the civilians suffered minor injuries.

Anthony Morra of William Street in Oshawa is facing numerous charges including Assault x2 and Break and Enter with Intent.

He was released on an Undertaking.
