Oshawa Juried Art Exhibition winners on display at the McLaughlin Gallery until May 22

Art is something very personal and quite special to a lot of people. Karen Coyle, the President of the Oshawa Art Association, is one of those people.
“The definition of art is ‘the expression or application of creative skill and imagination.’ When you look at a piece of art, you are looking into the imagination of the artist. You are seeing a piece of that person, which otherwise wouldn’t be visible. A direct view into their soul. To me, that is magical”
Coyle got to witness quite a few direct views into the soul of the artist recently at the gala for the 54th annual Juried Art Exhibition at the Robert McLaughlin Art Gallery in downtown Oshawa.
There were more than 200 submissions this year in eight different categories – People/Figures; Landscape/Seascape/Cityscape; Wildlife; Still Life; Derivative Abstract; Imaginative Abstract; Sculpture; Three Dimensional; and Youth (12-18) – with awards handed out to 80 artists.
The submissions were judged by Maurice Snelgrove, who has worked for 15 years as an artist, designer and art director with a passion for the outdoors.
The winning artwork will be on display at the gallery until May 22.
