A pair of community champions – with a little help from some friends – will be riding inside Lakeridge Health Oshawa this week to raise awareness for the upcoming RBC Ride for the ‘Ridge cycling event.
R.S. McLaughlin Durham Regional Cancer Centre volunteer and Lakeridge Health Board Member Brian Bussiere and Port Perry Hospital Foundation Board Member and patient advocate Marc Gibbons will be riding on stationary trainers in the hospital’s main lobby on Thursday, while their progress is tracked on a big screen in real-time.
The unique, high-energy cycling challenge inside the Oshawa hospital is designed to spread the word about Ride for the ’Ridge, Durham Region’s premier cycling event and a key fundraiser supporting essential equipment, technology, and enhancements to patient care across Lakeridge Health and its five hospital sites, community locations, long-term care home and a state-of-the- art surgical centre.
The event will take place Thursday, April 2 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the hospital’s lobby, with two other riders joining Gibbons and Bussiere, with representatives from the Foundations of Lakeridge Health, hospital staff, patients and supporters on hand to “cheer them on.”
Ride for the ‘Ridge will happen on May 24 at Ajax Downs racetrack.
