On Remembrance Day every year we honour our soldiers and those who have come before. This week the City of Oshawa honours its citizens, businesses and workers as Community Legends for their collective perseverance during the pandemic

Every year the City honours a ‘Community Legend’ – almost always a citizen, though once an organization – that have made a major impact in in the community and helped improve the quality of life in the city.

Past recipients have included a youth who raised money for veterans’ causes, the organizer of an annual clothing drive, a war veteran who has raised nearly a million dollars for the local hospital, and the founder of Sharon’s Kids, and organization that ensures children in need have a happy Christmas.

Other winners have included a former Mayor, a broadcaster and volunteer, a Provincial Senior of the Year, the Oshawa Block Parents’ Association and Oshawa‘s ‘#1 Fan,’ among many others.

In 2022, Oshawa Council went a different route and chose you, as well as your neighbours down the street and everyone else who lives and works in Oshawa.

The 2022 Community Legend Award was presented Monday to “all of Oshawa’s residents, workers, volunteers, community groups, businesses, and institutions in the private and public sectors for their support of each other and their resiliency during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Hat’s off to you. You deserve it.
