Oshawa GO is getting a makeover as Metrolinx plans its ambitious and much delayed expansion into Bowmanville, with early works at the existing station beginning In September and expected to last until spring.
As part of the GO Expansion project, Oshawa GO Station is scheduled for a comprehensive infrastructure upgrade. This work, Metrolinx says, will support future track and infrastructure updates. For safety reasons, some work may take place overnight when revenue trains are not in service.
GO customers, commuters and businesses can expect some noise, vibration, dust and a visual presence of construction crews at staging areas and trailer sites near the rail corridor.
Crews have staged their trucks and equipment needed for the project on the west side of the station on Victoria Street in Whitby.
This work is not expected to include the eventual crossing of Highway 401 by the trains to the Thornton’s Crossing East Go station on the north side of the highway, one of four new stations planned – including two in Oshawa – as the transit agency extends daily GO train service into Courtice and Bowmanville.
