Oshawa Generals’ top three draft picks all earn invites to Canada U17 camp in Calgary

Oshawa Generals top pick Beckett Sennecke at team's rookie camp

The Oshawa Generals knew they drafted some good prospects inn the recent OHL Priority Selection. Now they know Hockey Canada approves as well.

All three of the Generals’ top picks in the draft have been given invites to Hockey Canada’s U-17 development camp, which will run from July 10-16 at the Markin MacPhail Centre at WinSport’s Canada Olympic Park in Calgary.

Forward Beckett Sennecke and defencemen Ben Danford and David Bedkowski will join 97 other CHL rookies vying for a spot on this year’s Team Canada roster for the 2022 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Langley and Delta B.C., from November 5th to 12th.

Sennecke (Toronto) was Oshawa’s top pick in the first round, eighth overall. Sennecke scored 35 goals and added 45 assists in 45 games for the Toronto Marlboros. The 6’0, 161 lb forward played in five games at the 2022 OHL Cup with the Marlboros, scoring another five goals and three assists in the tournament.

Danford (Madoc) was the Generals second first round pick, selected 14th overall. He spent the 2021-2022 season with the Quinte Red Devils, scoring seven goals and 22 assists for 29 points in 26 games.

The 6’0, 176lb defenceman also played in the 2022 OHL Cup dressing in six games and reaching the second semi-final. Danford had one assist in the tournament.

Bedkowski (Toronto) was the Generals second round pick in the draft, 28th overall. A big lad at 6’3 and 187 lbs, he played 28 games for the Richmond Hill Coyotes, scoring 10 goals and eight assists.

All three players recently committed to the Generals for the 2022-2023 season, and outside of orientation camp held a few weeks ago, this will be their first opportunity to showcase their skills and talents to Hockey Canada.

The 2022 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge makes its return following its replacement tournament, The Capital City Challenge, in 2021.

Sennecke, Danford and Bedkowski follow in the steps of teammates Calum Ritchie (2021), Patrick Leaver (2019), and Brett Harrison (2019) who earned invites to the development camp.
