Oshawa Generals snap 8-game losing streak; can clinch playoff spot Wednesday

A win in regulation in Kingston Wednesday and the Oshawa Generals are in the playoffs after the team doubled up Mississauga Sunday at the Tribute Communities Centre, snapping an eight-game losing streak in the process.

Matthew Buckley scored twice and he and Cameron Butler both had three points for the winners, who moved three points clear of Kingston for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Kingston was blanked 6-0 in Kitchener, the club’s seventh straight loss. The free-falling Frontenacs have one win in their past 15 games.

Oshawa lost 4-3 in Ottawa Friday night – Ryan Gagnier, Luke Torrance and Ty Petrou had the goals – but didn’t lose any ground because the Frontenacs were beaten 6-3 by London and Kingston followed that performance by losing 4-3 to Sarnia Saturday night.

Jacob Oster had 38 saves for Oshawa Sunday as Mississauga outshot the Generals 41-32 and Dylan Roobroek made his presence felt in the faceoff dot, winning an impressive 18 of 24 draws. Torrance, Butler, Gagnier and rookie Beckett Sennecke had the other Oshawa goals in the win. Oshawa was without star forward Calum Ritchie (upper body injury) for the seventh straight game.

Referee Mike Hamilton worked his 513^th and final regular season OHL game.
