The Oshawa Generals lost a crucial battle of eight-place clubs Wednesday night but with Kingston also losing the team didn’t lose any ground in what could be a heated race for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

If Kingston continues to lose – the club has dropped eight straight and trails Oshawa by three points – there may not be a race, but the Generals will have to win some games and Wednesday’s rare Wednesday evening encounter with the Kitchener Rangers was a chance to do just that, with Kitchener holding down the last playoff spot in the West.

The game also marked the return of former Oshawa captain Lleyton Moore and it was Moore and his Rangers who came out on top, racing to 2-0 and 5-2 leads before holding on for a 6-4 victory.

Cam Butler (22) and Stuart Rolofs (28) scored for the Generals, who are in Sudbury (three points clear of Oshawa in seventh) tonight before travelling to Sault Ste Marie Saturday night.

Oshawa, Sudbury and Kingston all have 11 games remaining.
