The Oshawa Generals have lost their second straight game to begin the 2021-22 season, but this time they gained a point after a 3-2 shootout loss to the Niagara Falls in St. Catharines Saturday night.

On the bright side, the team is seeing their prized first-round selection (number 2 overall) Calum Ritchie continue to shine on the big stage as the new can’t-miss-kid potted his second goal in as many nights.

Ritchie also scored in the shootout.

Ritchie scored the game’s first goal in the second period and was all over the ice in the game, creating plays and consistently finding open ice, said Generals Head Coach Todd Miller.

“He is such a talented player, and we are seeing it on full display,” Miller said after the game. “He’s so good on both sides of the puck and always seems to know what the right decision is when he’s on the ice. He’s a special player.”

Oshawa would hold the lead until the third, and after Niagara scored twice to take the advantage Daniel Michaud re-directed a Ty Tullio shot to send the game to overtime.

Jake Uberti and Isaac Enright scored Niagara’s goals on Oshawa goalie Zach Paputsakis.

Juan Copeland scored in the sixth round of the shootout to win it for the Ice Dogs, who are now 2-0 on the season.

Oshawa will look to get their first win in the books Monday when they travel to Ottawa to face the 67’s.
