Oshawa Generals drop two, fall back to third in the East

Fresh off an overtime win against league #1 Mississauga Steelheads, the Oshawa Generals could be forgiven for entering last weekend’s doubleheader with some degree of confidence of coming away with four points.
The club, which lost its grip on second place in the hotly contested East Division in the process, had to settle for zero points after dropping both matches this weekend: 4-2 on the road vs Sudbury on Friday and 2-0 against Kingston back home on Sunday.
Sunday’s blanking was the first time the Frontenacs had shut-out the Generals in 17 years.
Kingston netminder Leevi Merilainen stopped all 26 shots in the Fronts’ net Sunday but it was Patrick Leaver between the pipes for Oshawa that put on a show, stopping 47 of 48 shots. Leaver only gave up star-in-the-making Shane Wright’s goal midway through the second period in a brilliant performance.
Lucas Peric scored the second Kingston goal into an empty net.
Friday night’s game was also a thriller – for two periods anyway. Cooper Way opened the scoring for the Gens and Oskar Olausson’s second period goal tied things up at two, but the Wolves pulled away in the third with a pair, including Dominik Jendek’s game-winner at 8:57.

Zachary Paputsakis stopped 31 of 35 shots in the Generals’ net.
Oshawa (17-14-3) will get a chance at payback this Friday when they visit the Leon’s Centre in Kingston for a date with the now first-place (20-9-3) Frontenacs.
