Oshawa Generals drop seventh straight, fall 8-3 to Ottawa

The memories of a dramatic overtime win over the Ottawa 67s – the league’s best team – on February 26 are in the distant past as the present day Oshawa Generals were spanked 8-3 Wednesday afternoon in the nation’s capital, the suddenly free-falling club’s seventh straight loss.
Stuart Rolofs staked the visitors to a 1-0 lead early in the opening period as the Generals outshot Ottawa 7-1 in the first ten minutes of the game. It was all downhill from there as the 67s poured in five straight goals before Ryan Gagnier’s 28th goal of the season in the second stanza stopped the bleeding.
Ottawa would score two more in the period and another in the third, sandwiched around Rolof’s second of the game and team-leading 32nd of the season, to put a bow on the victory.
Jacob Oster gave up seven goals on 33 shots before he was mercifully lifted for Carter Bickle to start the third.
The injury-riddled Generals – Calum Ritchie missed his fifth straight game with an upper body injury and several other key players have spent time in sick bay over the past two weeks – will have to rest up and re-group for a re-match with Ottawa Friday night at home in the Tribute Centre, in what is looking like a first round playoff preview.
That’s assuming Oshawa, which has five games remaining, can hold off Kingston (six left) the for the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Oshawa leads Kingston by a single point. Both teams are 1-9 in their last ten games.
