Oshawa General star has nine points in seven games as Canada earns bronze at U18 Worlds

Macklin Celebrini scored the game-winning goal 7:51 into overtime to give Canada a 4-3 victory over Slovakia Sunday and the bronze medal at the men’s under-18 world hockey championship in Basel, Switzerland.
Calum Ritchie of the Oshawa Generals finished the tournament, won by the U.S., with three goals and six assists in seven games.
Celebrini, who is just 16, also netted the game’s opening goal, while Colby Barlow and Matthew Wood added the others for Canada. Gabriel D’Aigle made 26 saves.
Ryan Leonard scored at 2:20 of overtime as the Americans won the gold in extra time, coming back from a two-goal deficit to beat Sweden 3-2 in the final.
Sweden was the only team to beat Canada in the tournament, handing Canada two huge losses; 8-0 in the opening game and 6-2 in the semi-final.
The U.S. finished the tournament with a perfect 7-0 record. Forward Will Smith, whose assist on the goal that sent the game into overtime was his 20th point of the tournament – tying Jack Hughes’ U.S. record set in 2019 – was named MVP.
