Oshawa council adopts new committee structure

Oshawa has put a new spin on its committee system as council begins its new term.

Gone are Corporate Services, Development Services, Finance and Community Services and in their places are Community & Operations Services, Safety & Facilities, Economic & Development Services and Corporate and Financial Services.

Community & Operations Services Committee, chaired by John Gray (Vice-Chair Jim Lee) will handle matters regarding recreation services, operations services and community support services. Other members are Bob Chapman (re-appointed for a second term as Deputy Mayor), John Neal and Brian Nicholson.,

Corporate & Finance Services Committee, chaired by Derek Giberson (Vice-Chair Bradley Marks) will be responsible for finance, human resources, information technology services, innovation and transformation and legal services. Other committee members are Tito-Dante Marimpietri, Rosemary McConkey and Neal.

Economic & Development Services Committee, chaired by Marimpietri (Vice-Chair Chapman) takes care of matters related to building services, business & economic development services, engineering services and planning. Other members Giberson, Gray and Rick Kerr.

Safety & Facilities Services Committee, chaired by Nicholson (Vice-Chair Kerr) will take charge of facilities management services, fire services, municipal law enforcement & licensing and the Oshawa Executive Airport. Other members of the committee are Le, Marks and McConkey.

The meeting cycles of the new committees will begin Monday, November 28.
