Thousands of new graduates, joined by their family members and friends, are celebrating in Oshawa during Convocation Month from June 2 to 17.

The City of Oshawa is sharing in the celebrations with graduates from Durham College, Ontario Tech University and Trent University Durham GTA with some unique additions to the downtown, including:

  • Selfie stations
  • Window signage & stickers
  • Convocation ambassadors to assist with wayfinding and contributing to the celebratory experience

Oshawa is home to more 25,000 post-secondary students, who make a substantial contribution to the local economy, as well as adding to the social and cultural fabric of the city.

“This month, we celebrate Oshawa’s postsecondary graduates and the strength of our partners in developing the next generation of leaders and problem solvers,” said Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter. “With three leading postsecondary institutions, the energy brought to the great City of Oshawa at this time of year is exciting as we celebrate with our new graduates who will make their mark across the world.”

TeachingCity Oshawa, which brings together the City and its education partners – Durham College, Ontario Tech University, Trent University Durham GTA, and the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering – is a prime example of the benefits of collaboration. TeachingCity tries to address urban issues through innovation, collaboration, applied research and shared experiential learning opportunities with the aim to position Oshawa as a local, national and global community of urban research and learning.
