Parts of Durham Region were among the hardest hit by yesterday’s storm with Oshawa and Whitby both reporting 50 or centimetres of snow.

With lake effect snow and an incoming clipper on the horizon tonight, the region can look forward to another blast of winter to wake up to Wednesday morning.

Oshawa reported 55 centimetres of snow by 2 p.m. Monday and Whitby had already recorded 52 by 10 a.m. Both totals were among the highest snowfalls reported in Ontario.

Clean-up efforts are still ongoing after the most significant winter wallop in years that saw schools closed and highway clogged with stranded motorists.

It started with a potent low-pressure system that developed stateside and tracked south of the Great Lakes before bringing the white stuff to much of Ontario on Monday. It was an impactful system that buried most communities in at least 30 cm of snow and forced widespread closures.

And there’s likely another 5-10 cm coming tonight and into Wednesday, along with freezing temperatures.

Winter has arrived.
