Arenas in Ontario return to full capacity for sporting events and concerts today, as part of new Ministry of Health guidelines.

Facilities will also begin accepting enhanced vaccination certificates with QR codes today as well. The code on the enhanced certificate can be scanned and validated. QR codes can be saved to a mobile device or printed as a paper copy. Both electronic and paper versions will be accepted.

While vaccines without a QR code will continue to be accepted, Durham residents are encouraged to download their enhanced vaccine certificate with a QR code as an easier, more secure and convenient way to have their proof of vaccination verified.

If you are eligible to be vaccinated you must show proof of vaccination, along with government issued ID to attend any municipal facility, with certain exemptions. The rule applies to participants as well as spectators.

Proof of vaccination is not required for those between the ages of 12 and 17 years who are actively participating in indoor organized sports, dance classes, martial arts, or swimming lessons. Additionally, proof of vaccination is not required for children who are 11 years of age and younger and are unable to be vaccinated.

The return to full capacity could not come any sooner for the Oshawa Generals and the Tribute Communities Centre. The Generals host Niagara Ice Dogs tonight and Ottawa 67s Sunday at the Tribute Centre and the arena has a full slate of concerts and other events on the horizon.

“We approached the reopening strategy through the lens of our guests, thinking about their full experience from the time they purchase their ticket to when they pull out of their parking spaces to head home,” said Vince Vella, Spectra’s General Manager at Tribute Communities Centre. “We want our guests and our employees alike to know that every precautionary measure we’ve implemented is to ensure their health and safety while they are at the Tribute Communities Centre. We want our guests to have an enjoyable, straightforward, familiar—and above all, safe experience.”
