Oshawa, Ajax, Whitby fuel Durham’s Covid case jump to 29

Durham Region’s Covid-19 cases took another big jump Tuesday with 29 new cases reported, up from 18 reported Monday.

Six people are hospitalized, with one in ICU.

Oshawa (9), Ajax (8) and Whitby (7) reported the highest number of new cases in Durham.

The highly contagious Delta variant total has now reached 215, with six active.

Vaccination rates continue to climb with nearly 923,000 doses administered in the Region so far. Nearly 80 per cent of Durham’s 12-and-over population has received at least one dose while 73 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Oshawa continues to trail its neighbours in vaccination rates, with 69.1 per cent fully vaccinated and 75.7 of its 12-plus population having received at least one dose.
