As the Ontario Provincial Police continue their annual seatbelt campaign, Sgt. Kerry Schmidt took to Twitter to share a disturbing story that occurred on Hwy 407.

“Upon [the officer] looking inside the car, not only was the 22-year-old-driver not buckled… an 18-year-old mother in the back was holding her 15-month-old baby… there was also a 3-month-old in the mother’s lap”.

The mother was also not wearing a seatbelt, according to Schmidt.

“There’s not enough love in this world that would keep that baby safe [in the event of an accident]”.

Schmidt added that the force of a collision could turn a 10-pound baby into a 100-pound weight.

OPP say that the number of individuals caught without their seatbelts in Ontario is up 25 per cent from this time last year.
