The OPP will be coming to the Welland campus of Niagara College twice in the next week on a recruitment information blitz with one session being for women only.

The first session will be held on March 2 from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Niagara Safety Village on campus and is open to everyone.

The second session on March 8 – International Women’s Day – at the same location, also from 6 pm to 8 pm, will be open to women only.

The OPP say the sessions “provide participants the opportunity to gain knowledge, insight and helpful advice relating to the OPPs recruitment process. The session includes an overview of how to apply, pre-requisites, expectations of an applicant and an overview of how to prepare for each stage of the process.”

“This presentation will benefit those candidates who want to learn more about the OPPs recruitment process, to ensure they are at their competitive best before they apply.”

Obviously, for most, the first thought is the steps and criteria for becoming an officer. However, the OPP has openings for civilian employment, as well.

“Civilians are non-uniform members who provide critical support to our organization,” said the OPP. “They work in many areas including communications, administration, forensics, garage operations, transcription, evidence management, information technology, public relations and more.”

As well as traditional officers, the OPP will also be looking for Special Constables, civilian employees who have been given limited peace officer or police officer powers by the Commissioner for a specific job or task. This includes offender transportation officers, security officers, court officers and forensic identification analysts.
