woman discovers lottery win on ticket she was about to throw out ontario

An Ontario woman discovered a huge lottery win on a ticket that she was about to throw in the garbage.

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation announced that Lynne Moore of Cobden in eastern Ontario won the $5 million Lotto 6/49 classic jackpot in the June 4 draw.

The retired banker has been playing the lottery with the OLG for more than 20 years, but buys Lotto 6/49 tickets just twice a year, a news release said.

“A week after buying this ticket, I was cleaning my house and noticed it sitting there on the table,” Moore said.

“I said to myself, ‘Let me check this before I throw it out.'”

She got her tablet and checked the winning numbers one by one.

“When I realized I’d matched all six numbers, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me,” she said.

“I thought, ‘This can’t be real! Is my tablet working right?’ It was a lot to process.”

Moore shared the news with her husband and children, but they didn’t believe her at first and laughed.

“They thought I was messing with them.”

It was around one month before Moore had her prize claim appointment at the OLG.

“I was eager and anxious, so it was a long month for me, but the time has finally come, and I now feel at ease,” she said.

In terms of her plans with the winnings, Moore said she will give her children money to buy houses and save for her grandchildren’s education.

She also plans to renovate her home and invest some of the money.
