Ontario will enforce COVID testing for foreign travellers arriving at Mississauga’s Pearson Airport

Travellers from other countries arriving at Mississauga’s Pearson Airport will be tested for COVID-19 beginning next week.
The Ontario government will swab those who land here using rapid testing kits as part of the plan to contain the spread of the virus and its more contagious variants such as the U.K. strain.
It’s not known what will immediately happen to those people who test positive.
The move comes in advance of other restrictions that are expected to be put in place by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau today.
For weeks Ontario Premier Doug Ford has grown increasingly frustrated about the lack of enforcement by Ottawa for those with COVID who have been arriving from foreign destinations. Today’s actions are being put into place in case the federal government plan falls short of Ford’s expectations, sources say.
Already cases of the U.K. variant have caused the deaths over 50 people in Ontario, while three people in Peel Region have been confirmed as carriers of the strain.
