Ontario’s transportation minister has revealed whether he will run for reelection amid early election speculation in the province.

A spokesperson for Prabmeet Sarkaria confirmed to INsauga.com that he will be running again when an election is held.

Sarkaria, who is also the Member of Provincial Parliament for Brampton South, became the transportation minister in September 2023.

He was also previously the president of the treasury board.

Sarkaria was first elected in 2018 and was reelected again in 2022. He is a member of the Ontario Progressive Conservative party.

Earlier this week, Premier Doug Ford ruled out calling an election this year, but left the door open to calling one in 2025.

The province’s next fixed election date isn’t until June 2026, but Ford continued to dance around the issue of whether or not he’ll call an early election.

Ford confirmed, however, that he has given his party’s members of provincial parliament a December deadline to decide if they will run again.
