Upgrades are coming to a dozen parks across Clarington, with one already underway, eight more projects set to launch this summer and three scheduled to begin in the fall.
Work on the biggest project on Clarington’s calendar – a new municipal park on the former Bowmanville Zoo lands with 700 metres of new trails on the west side of the Soper Creek system, including a main four-metre-wide asphalt trail and a series of secondary crushed limestone walking trails, launched in the spring.
This summer crews will begin work on eight park projects in Clarington:
- Belmont Park, Newcastle: A new neighbourhood park featuring a multi-skills court for basketball and ball hockey, playground, walking paths, shade structure, seating and open space (late summer)
- Avondale Park, Courtice: Splash pad redevelopment
- Barlow Court Parkette, Bowmanville: New playground
- Cecil B. Found Park, Courtice: New playground
- Glanville Parkette, Bowmanville: New playground
- Longworth Park, Bowmanville: New playground with junior/senior play structure and swings, engineered wood fibre safety surface and accessible ramp, upgrades to the ball diamond, trail improvements
- Pearce Farm Park, Newcastle: New playground and splash pad, basketball court
- West Side Park, Bowmanville: Splash pad redevelopment

Avondale Park, Courtice
Three more projects are set to go in the fall:
- Clarington Fields, Bowmanville: Improvements to two ball diamonds, including backstops, pitching mounds, and warning track, as well as spectator area improvements
- Guildwood Park, Bowmanville: Splash pad redevelopment, new off-leash dog area
- Optimist Park, Bowmanville: Enhancements to sports fields and basketball court
