Ontario reported 2,254 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 and 474 patients in intensive care on Tuesday.

That’s down from 3,091 people in hospital and 568 people ICU a week ago.

The province is also reporting 42 more virus-related deaths.

There were 2,092 new COVID-19 cases reported, though Public Health Ontario has said the true number is likely higher due to the province’s current restricted testing policy.

Just under half of the province’s long-term care homes – 285 out of 626 – were experiencing outbreaks as of Tuesday.

The province isn’t reporting on COVID-19 cases in schools but five schools were closed for operational reasons and 173 schools reported absences of 30 per cent or higher the previous day.
