Ontario reports 10,450 new COVID-19 cases, 579 people in ICU

Ontario is reporting 10,450 new COVID-19 cases today, Jan. 16 (down 282 from yesterday) and 40 more deaths, with the seven-day case average falling to 9,928.

There are 1,652 new cases in Peel (Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon), 699 in Durham, 552 in Halton, 448 in Niagara region, and 347 in Hamilton.

3,595 people are hospitalized with COVID-19, with 579 people in ICU, according to Health Minister Christine Elliott.

29,455,129 vaccine doses have been administered in Ontario to date, including over 117,000 doses administered yesterday, Jan. 15.

91.4% of Ontarians 12+ have received one dose and 88.7% have received two doses.

The province’s top doctor says the COVID-19 restrictions currently affecting Ontario businesses could remain in place past Jan. 26.
