Hamilton resident Tristan R. is a lot richer after scoring a major lottery win.
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation announced on Thursday that he won $1 million from the April 1 Lotto 6/49 gold ball draw.
The 31-year-old physiotherapist said he has been playing the lottery every week for about a year.
Tristan purchased his big-winning ticket on OLG.ca.
He was on his lunch break one day when he saw that he received an email from the OLG.
“When I saw I won a major prize of $1 million, I was shocked,” Tristan said.
“It was so unbelievable — I probably checked the ticket a hundred times. I was really excited and couldn’t stop smiling for the rest of the workday.”

He didn’t share the news with his wife right away — instead, he waited until he got home. And she didn’t even believe it at first.
“It was around April Fools’ Day, so she thought I was joking,” Tristan said.
“When she finally believed it, we instantly started daydreaming about the things we could do with this prize. We just had a baby four months ago, so this win came at a great time.”
Among his plans, Tristan is looking to buy a bigger home and an SUV.
“We’d like to grow our family, and this will help us plan for that. We’ll also invest a portion of this win and maybe take a trip in the future,” he added.
