Vaughan man caught with $5,700 in feminine hygiene products and baby formula

A Vaughan man who tried to buy baby formula and feminine hygiene products through “fraudulent payment methods” at two different grocery stores this week has been arrested, with a search of his vehicle allegedly discovering $5,700 in product, as well as a replica handgun.

Police responded to the Real Canadian Superstore on Taunton Road in Whitby Tuesday morning after loss prevention staff reported a man attempting to use stolen credit cards to purchase a quantity of baby formula, feminine hygiene products and other goods. The suspect was also reported attempting to buy a quantity of the same items in the same fashion at the Real Canadian Superstore in Ajax earlier that day.

Officers arrived on scene and took the man into custody. Police say his vehicle was later located in the parking lot with two different licence plates affixed.

A search of the vehicle allegedly discovered more than $5,700 in baby formula and hygiene products, in addition to a replica handgun.

Aoqi Xu, 21, has been charged with fraud over $5,000, unauthorized use of credit card data and possession of stolen property.

He was released on an undertaking.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact D/Cst. Kane of the Financial Crimes Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5371.
