Motorists across the GTHA should brace themselves for sticker shock at the pumps as gas prices are expected to soar to record heights this week.

According to Dan McTeague, gas analyst and president of Canadians for Affordable Energy, gas prices are expected to jump by 2 cents on Wednesday (Oct. 6) to 142.9 cents per litre, a price not seen in the region since June 2014.

Prices won’t stop there, however, as McTeague said they are likely to jump by another 2 cents by Thursday to 144.9 cents per litre across Southern Ontario.

In a Tweet, McTeague said 144.9 would be an “all-time record high” for gas prices in the region.

Across the country, gas prices are expected to spike this week, with much of Western Canada expected to see a jump of at least 3 to 8 cents. Cities like Vancouver will see prices as high as 164.9 cents per litre before the weekend hits.
