A bold pair of bandits didn’t let the shouts from those in a nearby high-rise prevent them from stealing an ATM from a Burlington store.

The incident, caught on video and shared on social media, shows the culprits smashing into Jayys Cheers Convenience on Brock Avenue around 10:30 p.m. on March 3.

People in the apartment can be heard yelling at the brazen thieves to stop but the pair were determined to carry out their crime as one of the suspects first broke into the store and tied a chain around the machine. The second suspect behind the wheel then revved up his truck engine and pulled the ATM through the glass door of the store. They then loaded the machine onto the truck and sped off. It took just minutes for them to complete their task.

Police arrived on the scene moments later.

Subsequent reports say the ATM did not contain any cash but that $7,000 of damage was done to the store.

Police are investigating but so far have released vague descriptions of the robbers and their vehicles.

In the video, residents from the nearby building can be heard yelling at the men to stop with some letting out screams when the machine crashed through the glass.

A similar tactic was used on Feb. 17 at Shoeless Joe’s restaurant on Brant Street.

In that incident, reports say the culprits broke into the restaurant by smashing through the front door, wrapped a chain around the ATM, and then pulled it out using the power of the truck.

Police are still investigating that incident.
