One man in custody after shooting in Pickering pub

Attempted murder charges have been laid against a Toronto man in connection with a shooting at a Pickering pub last Friday that sent one man to hospital with gunshot wounds.

Winston Higgins, 27, is facing aggravated assault and six different gun charges in addition to attempted murder. He is in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

A second man involved in the shooting remains at large.

Durham Police West Division officers responded to calls of a fight inside the Harp and Crown Pub at 300 Kingston Road at 11:30 p.m. Friday night. During the fight a 22 year-old man sustained a gunshot wound and was taken to a Toronto trauma centre in critical condition.

His condition has since been upgraded to serious but stable.

Police are appealing to anyone who was inside the bar at the time of the altercation and may have any information to come forward.  Any witnesses with cellphone video are also encouraged to speak with investigators.
