Niagara Regional Police are asking the public for assistance in locating a suspect connected to an alleged violent assault that occurred at a St. Catharines restaurant patio in July that sent one patron with serious injuries to the hospital.

On July 10 (2023) shortly before 9 p.m., Niagara Regional Police Service responded to an unknown 911 call at a restaurant patio on St. Paul St. between James St. and Garden Pk.

Police say a 60-year-old man was discovered with serious injuries and subsequently transported to a local hospital. Fortunately, he has since been released.

According to investigators, the restaurant patio was filled with patrons when a minor verbal disagreement took place between the victim and an unidentified suspect.

It is alleged the situation escalated and the suspect repeatedly punched the seated victim, causing him to fall to the ground.

Shortly after, the suspect, along with a group of individuals he had been with, left the scene and proceeded eastbound along St. Paul St, officers say.

Detectives from the 1 District Criminal Investigation Branch have been assigned to the case and released a description of the unknown suspect.

The suspect is described as being a white man between 35 -40 years of age. He is short in height and has a slim build. He has short blonde hair and might have a moustache.

At the time of the incident, police believe the suspect was wearing a large long sleeved black t-shirt with a logo in the front, blue jeans and white Adidas sneakers.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the investigating officers by calling 905-688-411.
