Two pedestrians were struck and one woman is dead after a crash at a major Brampton intersection early Friday morning.

The individuals were stuck at around 5:30 a.m. in the intersection of Heritage Rd. and Steeles Ave. Peel Regional Police say a 41-year-old woman died at the scene and a 30-year-old woman was sent to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area as police investigate the crash.

Police say the woman was at the east side of the intersection crossing southbound when she was struck.

“Unfortunately, it was a heavy impact and she landed on the westbound side,” a police spokesperson said.

A second pedestrian was also struck while trying to help the woman and was hospitalized with serious injuries, police said.

The intersection is closed in all directions and police expect the lanes to be closed for an “extended period.”

Three vehicles linked to the collision. Police say two drivers stayed at the scene, but the driver of a gray midsized SUV left before emergency crews arrived.

Police believe the vehcile fled westbound on Steeles Ave.
