One arrest made in $30,000 theft of designer sunglasses from mall in Ontario city

Police have arrested one suspect and identified a second in a theft of designer sunglasses valued at $30,000 from a business in the Shops at Pickering City Centre.

Durham Police say three women entered the LensCrafters store at Pickering City Centre at  8:20 p.m. on Monday, September 29 and stole more than 60 pairs of designer sunglasses before fleeing.

West Division Criminal Investigations Branch were able to identify two suspects and on October 26. Police executed a search warrant at a home at Dundas Street and Scarlett Road in west Toronto. More than $25,000 of the stolen goods were recovered.

On Sunday, November 23, police arrested Toronto’s Carolyn Vanessa Walker, 33, and charged her with theft over $5,000 and possession of stolen property.

A 17-year-old from Mississauga has been identified and is wanted on the same charges. An unidentified third suspect is also wanted on theft and possession of stolen goods charges.

Walker was held for a bail hearing.

Investigators are advising the suspects to contact counsel and turn themselves into police.  Anyone who is found to be assisting the suspects to evade police is guilty of an offence under the Criminal Code of Canada and will be prosecuted, police say.
