Three Peel Regional Police officers have been disciplined and denied promotions after an internal investigation found they improperly accessed or shared confidential information connected to a recent promotional competition.
The misconduct was uncovered after a complaint raised concerns about the integrity of a promotion process involving candidates seeking supervisory positions within the service.
An investigation by the force’s professional standards unit determined that three officers were involved in the improper handling of confidential material related to the competition. As a result, all three were removed from consideration for promotion and faced internal disciplinary measures.
Police have not disclosed the nature of the discipline, or the names of the officers involved noting that the matter was addressed internally under Ontario’s Community Safety and Policing Act and did not meet the threshold for a formal public hearing.
The probe found no evidence that senior officers or members of the command structure were involved in the disclosure of information.
The issue emerged during what Peel police previously described as the largest promotional process in the service’s history. Earlier this year, dozens of officers advanced to higher ranks as the organization continued to expand and fill leadership positions amid ongoing recruitment efforts and retirements.
Following the investigation, Peel police reviewed its promotional procedures and introduced additional safeguards aimed at preventing similar incidents in future competitions.
The service says maintaining confidence in the promotional process is critical, particularly as those selected for advancement are expected to take on key leadership roles within the organization.
