It was quite the week for Oakville’s Zach Wigle.

The Oakville Blades forward signed on with Barrie Colts late last week and then made his Ontario Hockey League debut on the weekend.

Wigle, who was a ninth-round selection (169 overall) of Barrie in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection, was in the lineup Saturday night when the Colts hosted the Oshawa Generals at Sadlon Arena.

The five-foot-10, 183-pound centre had no points or shots in Barrie’s 1-0 loss, but he did win five of nine faceoffs.

Wigle was back in the lineup for Barrie on Sunday, a 3-1 loss in Oshawa. He finished with no points or shots while going 4-for-11 on faceoffs.

The Oakville native had nine goals and seven assists for 16 points in 30 games with the Blades in the OJHL this season.

“Zach came into our training camp in September and left us impressed,” said Colts general manager and head coach Marty Williamson. “He carried this over to Oakville in the OJHL and progressed well with them. Zach is a two-way centreman who takes care of all three zones and has a strong shot.

“We believe Zach will be a big part of the Colts future and we are excited to welcome him to the team.”

Wigle was drafted from the Oakville Rangers Minor Hockey Association where he led his team with 17 goals and added 16 assists for 33 points in 32 games.
