Oakville native Luke Evangelista won’t be representing Canada at the upcoming 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship.

The 19-year-old forward was one of eight players released from Canada’s National Team Selection camp on Sunday night in Calgary.

The six-foot, 171-pound playmaker was a second-round pick (42 overall) of the Nashville Predators in the 2020 NHL Draft.

Evangelista will rejoin the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League, where he has recorded an impressive 20 goals and 20 assists for 40 points in 21 games.

Canada’s final 25-man roster was selected by Alan Millar, Canada’s director of player personnel, and James Boyd, the U20 lead  for the Program of Excellence management group.

This year’s world junior tournament will take place Dec. 26 to Jan. 5 in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alta.

Team Canada will now head to Banff, Alta. for training camp, Dec. 14-19, at the Fenlands Banff Recreation Centre.

Canada will then face Switzerland and Sweden in a pair of pre-tournament games in Red Deer on Dec. 19 and Dec. 20, before wrapping up its pre-tournament schedule against Russia in Edmonton on Dec. 22.
