Oakville hopes a targeted approach to tree trimming will reduce hazards and insect infestations this year.

Conducted on a rotational basis throughout Oakville, this season crews will be providing maintenance and trimming to trees on all town-owned street trees between Bronte Rd. and Third Line north of the QEW, and from Bronte to Sixteen Mile Creek between Upper Middle Rd. and Dundas St.

The rotational approach that sees the Town focus on different communities each year will allow crews to proactively prune all 108,000 street trees on a 10-year cycle.

“When crews examine the urban forest in a block pattern for possible hazards and tree health problems, there is a reduction in calls for emergency pruning,” reads a statement by the Town. “Additionally, crews can often find problems that would not have been reported by residents, such as an insect infestation that needs to be controlled. The block pruning method can also focus on certain tree species that may require more attention.”

Only trees on town-owned property are part of this program. Trees located on private property will not be trimmed by the Town.
