Oakville Transit riders can now use their smartphones to pay for their fares.

PRESTO E-Tickets offer a new convenient and cashless way for local bus travellers to pay, including occasional users as well as PRESTO customers who may have forgot their actual card at home.

The digital option was initially launched last year on Durham Region Transit and Hamilton Street Railway.

E-Tickets can be purchased, stored and activated all through the PRESTO E-Tickets app, available for download from the Apple app store or Google Play. Riders must activate the E-Ticket before boarding local transit and then scan the ticket’s QR code on a PRESTO device using the barcode reader.

Riders can download the e-ticket directly to a device and they won’t need to be on Wi-Fi or cellular data to use a ticket.

The fare on Oakville Transit is the same as the PRESTO fare and the ticket is valid for travel on a single transit system only.

Those transferring from Oakville Transit bus to GO Transit, for example, will need to buy a separate fare.

PRESTO E-Tickets can be used for families or groups travelling together, as passengers can purchase, activate and display multiple tickets all on one smartphone.
