The Town of Oakville has 67 employees on unpaid leave for refusing to follow their COVID-19 vaccine mandate.

However, with more than 95 per cent of the Town’s workforce fully vaccinated, Oakville is actually faring better than all of its surrounding municipalities.

Oakville also hasn’t had the transit disruptions some of the other surrounding municipalities have had to deal with as a result of the vaccination mandate.

“As we actively work with staff who are not fully vaccinated to get back into the workplace we expect this number to lower in the weeks ahead,” Oakville Mayor Rob Burton said in his weekly update.

In Burlington, just 88 per cent of City employees have been fully vaccinated. Mississauga had just 90 per cent of workers who had both shots in numbers that were last reported on Oct. 20.

As for the bigger cities, the City of Toronto is just behind Oakville with 94 per cent of its staff fully vaccinated, while City of Hamilton employees are at 92 per cent fully vaccinated.

“I applaud our employees’ actions towards slowing the spread of COVID-19 in our community and thank them for being leaders amongst other municipalities,” Burton said.
