Oakville softball pitcher headed to U.S. university

An Oakville softball pitcher is bringing her 61 mph fastball to the United States college ranks.

Sasha Buckberger, 17, of White Oaks Secondary School, has signed a letter of intent to attend Wayne State University in Michigan.

A player with the Mississauga North Tigers, Buckberger is lists her positions as pitcher and first base. A training video of her practising shows her continually firing pitches of 61 mph.

“Sasha is someone who has great size and will bring yet another look for us in the circle,” commented Wayne State softball coach Nicole Tines.  “She is athletic, and I am looking forward to watching her develop.”

The scholarship will begin for the 2023 softball season.
