Oakville MP Anita Anand’s rise in Canadian politics continues.

The Minister of National Defence and former Minister of Public Services and Procurement was named the most valuable politician for 2021 according to The Hill Times’ 23rd Annual All Politics Poll.

Anand edged out a pair of her fellow Liberals in the poll. Canadian Prime Minster Justin Trudeau finished second, while Canadian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland placed third.

The Oakville MP, who has an impressive resume in law and corporate governance, didn’t have to wait long to begin her climb in federal politics.

She was immediately named the Minister of Public Services and Procurement after her election in 2019.

Thrust into the public spotlight as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Anand worked tirelessly to obtain much-needed PPE and COVID-19 tests before helping secure millions of vaccines for Canadians in their fight against the deadly virus.

She was re-elected in her Oakville riding on Sept. 20th and a little more than a month later was promoted to serve as the Minister of Defence.

Anand recently made news when she offered a televised apology for the government’s failure to do enough to curb what they admitted was systemic sexual misconduct and discrimination in the nation’s armed forces.

The Hill Times partnered with Forum Research Inc. on the poll.
