Oakville Mayor Rob Burton has called a special Council meeting to consider a resolution to protect Glen Abbey lands.

The meeting, which will be held Tuesday, July 6 at 5:30 p.m., is in response to a formal request made to the Province of Ontario for a Ministerial Zoning (MZO) by Oakville MPP Stephen Crawford.

“I thank MPP Stephen Crawford for his letter in which he advised Oakville Town Council to formerly request an MZO from the Province to protect the Glen Abbey lands,” Burton said.

This comes as a result of a proposal by Glen Abbey Golf Course owners ClubLink, to create a community of more than 3,000 residential units and over 120,000 square feet of retail-commercial properties on the lands.

This proposal caused several concerns and in March, We Love Oakville joined residents’ associations Save Glen Abbey and Oakvillegreen Conservation Association in an effort to save the golf course and protect it from any potential developments.

The Council meeting will be live streamed on Oakville.ca.
