Rob Burton officially announced Friday he is seeking a fifth-term as Oakville Mayor.

Burton, who became mayor in 2006 after defeating incumbent Ann Mulvale, made the re-election campaign announcement in front of family and friends at Seasons restaurant in downtown Oakville.

Business owner Julia Hanna announced earlier this week she would be making another run for Oakville mayor, setting up a rematch of the 2018 election.

Burton would finish with 22,918 votes (49.64 per cent), edging Hanna, who had 19,341 votes (42.09).

The Oakville mayor listed saving Glen Abbey golf course among his key accomplishments.

“During the campaign, I will share my vision for major new parks and recreation facilities to keep keeping up with our growing community,” Burton said. “You can count on me because of my proven track record of delivering what I promise.”

“I want to keep moving forward, delivering the things that Oakville residents tell us they want,” he added. “That’s why I intend to run for another term as your mayor. I will always put first creating our best possible shared future for all of us. And the best is yet to come!”

The municipal election is schedule for Monday, October 24 later this year.
