Oakville launches improved website to combat speeders, promote safer roads

Reporting speeders and improving traffic flow on your street in Oakville just got a little easier.
The Town of Oakville’s Transporting and Engineering Department have launched a new and improved traffic calming website to promote safety, provide resources and assist residents in submitting reports.
The new Town website gives local residents a step-by-step process on how to start traffic calming requests. It also provides a dedicated email address for the complaints ([email protected]).
Traffic calming uses physical design and other measures to improve safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists. It has become a tool urban planners and traffic engineers in cities and towns use to combat speeding and other unsafe behaviours of drivers in the neighbourhoods.
The aim of traffic calming is to encourage safer, more responsible driving and potentially reduce traffic flow.
Strategies for traffic calming on minor collector and local roads, include speed cushions (humps), roundabouts and flexible bollards (thick posts).
The Town says the first step to starting a report is to submit a petition from the other residents on your street.
A minimum of 60 per cent of households within the petition boundaries must be in favour of traffic calming in order to proceed to the next stage.
