Oakville’s Patricia Wright had plenty of reason to feel giddy on her birthday this year.

A big lottery win will do that.

The 65-year-old grandmother couldn’t help but laugh when she realized she had won $100,000 on Encore.

Wright matched the last six of seven Encore numbers in exact order in the October 13 Lotto 6/49 draw.

“I checked it while at the store and I just started laughing when I saw ‘Big Winner’ – I just couldn’t help it!,” said Wright, who purchased the winning ticket at Shoppers Drug Mart on Cornwall Road in Oakville.

“I was in shock and I couldn’t process what was happening.”

Wright kept the win to herself at first and had a pretty good present for her family when she went home to cook her birthday dinner.

“They were very happy,” she smiled.

Saying “yes” to Encore certainly paid off for Wright, who said she usually buys lottery tickets when the jackpot is high.

“I usually just buy one or two tickets – and I don’t always play Encore, but I will now,” Wright shared while at the OLG Prize Centre to pick up her cheque.

As for what she will do with her $100,000 birthday winnings, Wright plans to invest, share with family and travel.

“Hopefully we will get to see the northern lights,” she said.
