Oakville Fire Department facility named province’s latest Regional Training Centre

Oakville is the newest home for training the province’s top firefighters.

The local training facility was named the latest Regional Training Centre in Ontario, Wednesday afternoon, by the Ontario Office of the Fire Marshall.

“The Fire Chiefs of Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville are committed to partnerships and teamwork critical for training and advancement of fire services,” said Paul Boissonneault, Fire Chief, Town of Oakville.

Oakville’s six-acre state-of-the-art facility is designed to train and improve the skills of firefighters.

Features include a live burning tower, a Firefit/Firefighter Combat Challenge tower, rope rescue tower, Drager System 64 Exterior Propane live fire simulators, hydro rescue area, auto-extrication pad, driver training are, water rescue pond and three classrooms.

“A (Regional Training Centre) is an important initiative for @oakvillefire and all fire departments in Halton Region,” Boissonneault said on Twitter. “Specialized courses and recognized training is key for all of us.

“Partnerships, teamwork and #movingforward in training.”

Simulations done at the Oakville facility allow firefighters to gain real-life experience in a controlled setting.

Simulations available include firefighting and rescue, technical rope rescue, water and ice rescue, auto extrication, confined space rescue, hazardous materials response and emergency medical.
